 Anniversary

Most couples like to rekindle their wedding day by celebrating their anniversary each year. A time to reflect on memories and experiences, to determine their achievements and to prepare for the future. An opportunity to join family and friends maybe, or just to chill out with some quality time together.

Traditionally, wedding anniversary gifts are associated with particular materials which are significant for each year.

Requests for Anniversary cakes often involve recreating an interpretation of the original bridal bouquet, in sugar, which is both challenging and fulfilling.

The base of the cake can be either a vanilla, almond or chocolate madeira, lemon drizzle, rich fruit or carrot cake. Shown below is a selection of my previous cakes to give you some ideas.

An interpretation of the bridal bouquet 25 years ago. This Silver Anniversary spray focuses on a Cymbidium Orchid with Rosebuds and Spider Plant foliage. Finished off with a big silver bow.

The occasion for this elegant oval cake was a Diamond Anniversary. The sugar spray includes Clematis and Pink Waxflower, with a cluster of ribbon loops and diamante effect beaded embellishments. A floral embroidery sugar band co ordinates with the flowers and a guilded sugar parchment scroll completes the presentation.

Designed for a Silver Anniversary, this horseshoe boasts a spray of Carnations, Roses, Eucalyptus, Ivy and Bear Grass, showing an interpretation of the original bridal bouquet. Around the base of the cake is a sugar embroidery ribbon band depicting a floral design and the sugar parchment scroll, edged with silver, provides a finishing touch to the overall effect.

A Golden Wedding celebration was the reason behind this very complex and elegant sugar spray. Consisting of Gardenias, Stephanotis and Lily of the Valley, interweaved with Asparagus Fern and gold Organza ribbons. The spray was also studded with tiny gold crystal embellishments.

A traditional large square cake, in this case the celebration was a Ruby Anniversary. The bridal bouquet was a combination of two different colour Roses and buds sheathed in an elegant swathe of Asparagus Fern. The sugar spray showed an interpretation of the original and was mounted on a removable plaque. The sugar parchment scroll, flanked by a Rosebud, provides a delicate finishing touch.
